Study of the Colchicine Effect on Mitotic Index of Mouse Bone Marrow Cell

Abstract
|
|
|
In order to know the effect of colchicine on mitotic index in mouse bone marrow cells, various concentration was injected in the abdominal cavity of mice and bone marrow cells were taken out after two hours. A-strain mouse was used in this study. Permanent preparations were made by modern air-drying technique. To evaluate the mitotic index, the nuclei of resting stage and -mitotic figures were counted. The results are summarized as follow; 1. After treatment of 0.01, 0. 05 and 0. 1% solution of colchicine, the mitotic indeces were found
to be 0. 043, 0.052 and 0. 070. But the plateau was formed in the concentrations above 0.01%. Hence, the threshold concentration for the increasing effect of mitotic index was supposed to
be 0. 1%.
2. The data showed no significant change in the frequency of prophases compared with the control group, but it was increased remarkably in mitosis.
